Many public contracts are re-tendered when they end. If you know a contract is ending, you can prepare months before the new notice is published. This recipe uses the Expiring contracts view and Emma’s buyer research to build a list of re-tender targets. You decide which buyers to approach and when.

Who it’s for

Business development leads who want a pipeline beyond today’s open tenders, and teams trying to unseat an incumbent.

Before you start

  • Your company profile has the interests and CPV codes that describe your services.
  • You understand two terms. An award notice records who won a contract. A framework is an umbrella agreement that buyers call off work from, often for several years.

Steps

1

In Opportunities, open the Expiring contracts view

It lists awarded notices with a contract end date in the coming months.
2

Sort by Contract end: soonest

Narrow the list with filters such as CPV Codes, City, Contract value, and Buyer. Save the result as a search profile with Save next to the search box so you can come back to it.
3

Open a promising contract

Note the buyer, the incumbent supplier, the value, and the end date.
4

Ask Emma to research the buyer's history

5

Ask Emma for a wider sweep

6

Add the best targets to Pipeline with Add to pipeline

In the Pipeline item, generate the Buyer activity report for a structured view of past notices, suppliers, and buying patterns.
7

Check the Upcoming view regularly

Buyers often publish a prior information notice (PIN) before the full tender.
8

Ask Emma to keep watch with a routine

Ask Emma

What Emma does and what you decide

Emma: searches historical award data, compares buyers and suppliers, ranks targets against your profile, generates buyer activity reports, and runs routines that watch for new notices. You: pick which buyers to pursue, decide whether and how to contact them, and plan your positioning against the incumbent.

Tips

End dates are not always final. Published end dates can change. Contracts may be extended, or a buyer may call off work from a framework instead of re-tendering. Treat an end date as a signal to research, not a guarantee of a new tender.
  • Respect the buyer’s procurement rules. Market engagement is often welcome before a tender, but contact usually becomes restricted once the tender is live.
  • Use the Similar Notices list on an opportunity to find buyers with comparable needs.
  • Claim your supplier profile under Settings → Experience so your own past awards count in matching. See Past projects.
